The International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA) today elected Emer Cooke, Executive Director of EMA as chair for the next mandate which starts in October 2022. EMA has been the chair of ICMRA since 1 October 2019, and Ms Cooke took over leadership in November 2020.
Accepting her election, Ms Cooke thanked ICMRA members for their continued support and trust in her leadership: “I am proud to have been elected to chair ICMRA for a new term. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the value of the ICMRA platform. It has allowed us, both to align priorities, and further strengthen our collaboration. I look forward to further developing our coalition to enhance future regulatory collaboration to protect public health together with all ICMRA members.”
Ms Cooke will be supported by vice chair Dr Yasuhiro Fujiwara, Chief Executive of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA), Japan, who was re-elected today.
ICMRA brings together leaders of medicines regulatory authorities to provide strategic directions for enhanced collaboration, improved communication and approaches to jointly address common challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group also addresses current and emerging human medicine regulatory and safety challenges. These efforts aim to strengthen the quality, safety and efficacy of medicinal products globally.
